Andrew Cameron
President
Founder and Head Coach
Specialty:
Coach Andy has a deep love for Functional Fitness, despite powerlifting being his top coaching specialty. He concentrates his coaching efforts on movements that closely replicate real-life activities and are performed frequently in daily routines. This approach, according to Coach Andy, brings immense benefits to individuals because it prepares the body for the demands of daily life and helps improve overall physical function and mobility. This, in turn, reduces the risk of injury and enhances the ability to perform everyday tasks with ease and comfort.
Mary Gaertner
Vice President
Specialty:
Mary plays a crucial role in maintaining the smooth functioning of both Coach Andy and Lions United Fitness Center. Behind the scenes, there is a lot that goes on and when Coach Andy is fully occupied, Mary steps in to handle administrative tasks. Mary leads a dynamic life – she takes walks in the morning, works out at the gym in the afternoon, and is a competitive dancer by night. Her dancing skills are truly remarkable, as she has competed and won numerous awards across the country.
Athena Cameron
Mascot and Lead Therapy Administrator
Specialty:
At Lions United Fitness Center, Athena ensures that every athlete feels secure and at ease. Her innate ability to understand people is a huge asset to the center. Depending on the athlete, she may run and play with them, or simply sit by their side as they work out, offering protection and support. As Lions United was established as a safe haven for the adaptive community, Athena’s role is paramount. She is always the first to greet you at the door, but only after the staff, parents, and athletes have had the chance to meet her and feel comfortable around her. During your initial visit, Coach Andy will inquire about your comfort level with dogs and introduce you to Athena. While most people are fine with her presence, there may be the occasional individual who is not. In such cases, Athena will remain in her office while you are at the center.
Alyssa Strukel
Treasurer
Assistant Coach
Specialty:
Alyssa’s extensive experience in the credit union industry has made her a valuable asset to the Lions United Team. When she’s not engaged in planning, budgeting, or reporting, she can be found in the gym, lifting heavy weights. Strength training comes naturally to Alyssa, and she relishes the challenge of pushing her body to its limits. She also helps athletes experience the feeling of reaching their limits and then pushing past them. Alyssa has joined forces with Coach Andy, bringing her skills and knowledge to the Lions United Powerlifting Team.
Nala Strukel
Assistant Therapy Administrator
Specialty:
Nala will approach you with a friendly wag, eager for a few scratches on the head. Despite being younger than Athena, playtime is still a big part of her day. She has a unique personality that adapts to every situation, and together with Athena, they ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone at Lions United Fitness Center. With Nala around, there is never a dull moment.
As with Athena, Nala will only be allowed to interact with the parents, staff, and athletes after they have met her and feel comfortable around her. During your first visit, Coach Andy or Alyssa will ask about your comfort level with dogs and introduce you to Nala. While most people are fine with her presence, there may be the occasional individual who is not. In such cases, Nala will remain in her office while you are at the center.
