Andrew Cameron
President
Founder and Head Coach
Specialty:
Although powerlifting is Coach Andy’s favorite sport to coach, Functional Fitness falls under his specialty. Coach Andy finds it beneficial to focus on movements that are preformed naturally and often in every day life.
Mary Gaertner
Vice President
Specialty:
Mary assists in keeping both Coach Andy and Lions United Fitness Center running smooth. A lot goes on in the back end, and when Coach has a full schedule, Mary steps in and helps with the administrative work. Mary is a walker by morning, gym goer in the afternoon, and a competitive dancer by night. Her specialty has to be her dancing because she has traveled all over and has won many awards.
Athena Cameron
Mascot and Lead Therapy Administrator
Specialty:
Athena has a way of making sure all of the athletes feel safe and comfortable. Her ability to read people really benefits Lions United Fitness Center. There are some athletes that she’ll run around and play with, and there are some where she will just sit by them and protect them while they workout. Athena’s role is critical here because Lions United was created to act as a safe place for the adaptive community. Athena will always be the first one to greet you at the door.
** Initially, Athena is never out running around until parents, staff, and athletes have met her and feel comfortable with her. During your first visit, you will be asked if you are comfortable around dogs, and Coach Andy will introduce you to Athena. Most say yes, but there is the occasional no. If that is the case, she will remain in her office while you are at Lions United. **
Alyssa Strukel
Treasurer
Assistant Coach
Specialty:
Strength training is something that comes natural to Alyssa. She loves to see how far she can push her body, and she helps athletes to discover what it feels like to reach failure, and then to push beyond it.
Nala Strukel
Assistant Therapy Administrator
Specialty:
Nala will sneak right up to your face and let you know she is there to make you feel welcome. Just make sure you give her noggin a few scratches. She’s a little younger than Athena, so her playtime is still very important to her. She has a personality for every situation. Nala and Athena together are the perfect pair to making everyone at Lions United Safe and secure. There is never a dull moment with Nala.
** Initially, Nala is never out running around until parents, staff, and athletes have met her and feel comfortable with her. During your first visit, you will be asked if you are comfortable around dogs, and Coach Andy or Alyssa will introduce you to Nala. Most say yes, but there is the occasional no.
